What is Dr. Stevens’ education and background?
Dr. Stevens is a chiropractic physician and applied kinesiologist (AK). He has over 500 post-graduate hours of training in Applied Kinesiology (AK) and has been a member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology for 20 years. He is a certified chiropractic acupuncturist (in NC and KS) with 300 hours of certified training. He has taught many continuing education seminars for his fellow chiropractors in many areas incling AK, acupuncture, and nutrition.
What can I expect during my first visit?
The initial consult and in-depth session will cover all facets of a patient’s health condition, pain or discomfort, history, and lifestyle. Structural, chemical, and emotional stress evaluation techniques are utilized on every visit via muscle testing along with traditional methods of assesment and diagnosis. Identifying the root causes of these stressors and their correction are at the heart of the AK protocol Dr. Stevens uses to fix patients. Possible corrections include specific spinal and extremity adjusting, acupressure, cranial bone manipulation, and nutritional supplementation (to maintain corrections).
Often, there will be homework assigned to patients to continue to encourage healing and stability in the days or weeks between treatments. This may come in the form of exercises, specific lymphatic treatments, diet changes, nutritional supplements, or acupuncture meridian point stimulation for example.
Please read ‘Applied Kinesiology: An Extra Step in Healthcare Examination’ for a more complete understanding of what is possible with this level of care this will be offered to you at your first appointment. On-going treatment for certain conditions may be required weekly or monthly. Dr. Stevens will make some suggestions in this regard according to your needs.
Please bring your nutritional supplements to one of your first office visits and be prepared to engage in a dialoge regarding your current diet and ways you think you might improve it. Diet and nutritional supplementation are a regular part of his treatment plans and recommendations.

Is Dr. Stevens a Preferred Provider?
Dr. Stevens is not a participating provider for any insurance plans. This means that he am an ‘out-of-network provider’ and should not be listed in any preferred provider directories. This applies to all health plans including Medicare and Medicaid. Eliminating insurance and Medicare/Medicaid contracts allows us to remove an extra layer of bureaucracy and regulations and allows more freedom to provide the best patient care.
Will insurance cover my office visit?
We suggest you ask your insurer specifically about their coverage for ‘out-of-network chiropractic’ providers. Some insurance companies will only accept electronic billing from providers but others allow paper claims from patients: we do not bill electronically, so in those cases we can give you an itemized statement to bill them directly. Your insurance company will reimburse you directly for services that are billable according to your policy. Medicare and Medicaid will not cover our services, nor can they be billed (see below).
Will Medicare cover my office visit?
Medicare patients are welcomed on a private-pay basis. We have opted out of Medicare, which means that neither doctor nor patient is able to bill Medicare. To satisfy Medicare guidelines, patients over 65 sign a form verifying that they understand the private pay arrangement. (Medicare supplement plans will not reimburse claims that have not been processed by Medicare first.) If you have questions, please ask. We will be glad to help.
24 hour cancellation please!
In order to be fair to myself and my patients, please let us know 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it to your appointment. If this notice is not given, you will be responsible for the missed appointment. Thank you.
